About Me
I came to yoga sometime around 2010 from the world of running and dance, knowing I needed more flexibility. I found that but also increased mobility and core strength as well as mental disciplines to calm my monkey mind. Now I spread the good news of yoga practically everywhere I go, believing passionately about what it can do for a person’s mind and body.
This is where you come in!
Everyone, no matter their age, loves ice cream. Why is that? One of the reasons it retains such popularity is due to the wide variety of flavors. There’s always a return factor associated because the joy of choosing one flavor is at the cost of having missed out on so many others, and so you must always return until you have finally discovered your favorite flavor. But even after you choose a favorite, those other flavors still call to you.
In this way, yoga is like ice cream; there are so many different flavors—everything from the most zen and relaxing restorative yoga to the most physically demanding and empowering Power Yoga! And just like ice cream, these flavors create different experiences and results, such as downregulating your nervous system and help you relax and sleep to leaving you in a sweaty and triumphant puddle, ready to take on the world!
But when you’re looking over all the flavors of ice cream and are having a hard time making your decision, who do you ask for help? The person behind the counter, because they have tasted them all. Let me be your confectioner in helping you decide which yoga is best for you.
But what if you already know your favorite flavor of ice cream? Here’s what I do:
In teaching yoga, I specialize in graduated exposure & progressive load: with the student's permission, I'll gradually add complexity, building strength & flexibility. I emphasize the student's choice, so each has agency & safety when trying new things.
For my New Yogis, I focus on a blend of muscle engagement and relaxation techniques, to facilitate deep breathing, core stability and release of tension in the neck, shoulders, and back. Based on each individual’s skills, time, and interest, we’ll level up on complexity and load to build in all of those areas.
